Enhancing Cooperation in Mental Health and Psychiatric Care


In an effort to strengthen international cooperation in the field of mental health and psychiatric care, a delegation from the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, visited the National Defense Medical College (NDMC) in Japan.


The visit aimed to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and explore collaborative approaches to improving the quality of psychiatric treatment and mental health services. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on key challenges faced in psychiatric care, including early diagnosis, community-based mental health services, and post-traumatic stress management among healthcare and defense personnel.


During the meeting, representatives from NDMC presented Japans integrated approach to psychiatric care within military and civilian healthcare systems, emphasizing multidisciplinary teamwork and long-term rehabilitation. The Thai delegation shared recent developments and initiatives in Thailands mental health system, particularly in expanding access to mental health services in both urban and rural areas.


This visit marked an important step toward mutual cooperation and the establishment of a sustainable framework for joint research, training, and academic exchange between the two institutions. Both parties expressed a shared commitment to continue their collaboration in addressing mental health challenges and enhancing the well-being of people in both countries.
